While sitting here snogging with a bad cold, I just muse back to the last day trip we did on Zakynhos. We left in the afternoon, on a slightly smaller boat than the day before when we went to Shipwreck Island, towards the stretch of sea to spot turtles and Gerakas Beach where the bugs hatch their nests. We also packed a piece of beautiful coastline.

But we'll start on the water looking for turtles. And that was not really easy today. It was cloudy and the sun only appeared for a moment each time. And it was just that sun that we desperately needed to get the turtles to the surface of the water.

While we were sailing in a circle with a number of boats, we finally got a turtle in the throes. But I suspect that the animal did well at the bottom of the sea with the boats above him/her. A turtle can stay underwater for quite a long time and only has to keep its nose above water to keep it full for fifteen minutes underwater.

Here you can see the animal lying on the bottom.

And below, roughly in the middle of the screen, you can see that the animal is finally coming up to take a breath of air. Very quickly, he is also down again.
