Vaccines are listed as the scientific discovery that has saved the most lives in human history.

They are over 100 years old, but some of the most important have been developed since the 20th century.

Until recently, infections were the first factor of death in many countries. Vaccination campaigns have changed that scenario.

Infant mortality has still fallen in poor countries.

Diseases such as smallpox have disappeared and the AIDS virus is under control.

Likewise, rabies, typhus, meningitis, hepatitis A and B and cholera.

In 100 years, nearly 30 vaccines have been developed. More are expected. What will be remembered as a historic milestone will be vaccines against COVID-19.

These are new technologies, completed in record time (less than twelve months after the start of the pandemic), which integrated the interest of laboratories and investors as a solution to the health crisis.
