Valentine, go do something fun!
People are happy about what they do, not what they get or have. (And no flowers at all. Venom!) So go do some fun!
The production of flowers requires a lot of water and energy. But there is something else that makes flowers bad for the environment. Much worse: poison. That was investigated two years ago by Greenpeace. And the results should make you think about ten more times before you buy a bunch of flowers.
Flowers have little to do with nature. An anti-pesticide action group, the PAN, had twelve bouquets of tulips, roses and mixed bouquets examined for pesticides. 25 different toxins were found in the mixed bouquets and an average of 17 in the roses. One third of those found funds are banned in the EU because of their harm to health or the environment. However, the producers of the banned pesticides − often against insects and fungi − still make them and export them to flower growers in other countries, for example in Ethiopia, Kenya and Colombia.
The flowers were purchased from Fleurop, deBloemist, Topflowers, Albert Heijn and Jumbo, and examined for pesticides. Pesticides were found in all twelve bouquets examined. according PAN is it so bad that faded flowers do not belong in the gft container, but in the residual waste. For example, there is fipronil in. PAN's research is not the first research into the use of pesticides in floriculture. The results are similar to previous studies on poison in cut flowers. ,, Nothing has improved.''
Most of the poison in agriculture is used in floriculture. Be aware that common plants and flowers generally contain pesticides that are harmful to humans and nature. For a sustainable garden or forest of flowers buy organic flowers , plants and spheres , look at the biogarden hand or try to find alternatives (self-sowing and cuttings, plant swapping fairs, etc.)

But there are also other florists who approach it a lot more environmentally friendly and often rely on ground or rainwater. Such as CSA self-picking for vegetables/fruit/flowers (subject to annual contract).
But I can give a very nice tip for my Northern neighbours and compatriots is an 'Expo about Leonardo Da Vinci 'in the Waagnatie in Antwerp, near the pleasant Eilandje.
