I'm Venezuelan! This simple phrase affirms, confirms and exalts a kindness of which I am proud.
Although my predominant features are denotly Afro-descendant,
spanish blood runs through my veins,
thanks to the ascendants of the maternal line.
My little bit of heaven on earth is an interesting mix of many cultures that enrich each other, and here the doors were opened to immigrants because it was necessary to make country.
Ships with Jews, Spaniards, Germans, English, Danish, French arrived at our ports but failed to “Europeanize” this soil, on the contrary, the Venezuelan government took charge of “Venezuelan” the immigrant stimulating mixed colonies.
In 1938 the president of the republic, General Eleazar López Contreras, created the Technical Institute of Immigration and Colonization; in 1945 President Romulo Betancourt replaced him with the Venezuelan Institute for Immigration and from that moment this became his second homeland or the opportunity to start again after living the horrors of the war.
I want to make a separate for those who, in a derogatory way, refer to Venezuelans challenging their knowledge about commodities as basic as a gouda cheese. I just want to let you know that our exchange with the Dutch began there in 1542 when they exploded our salt mines until about 1623. And then resumed more strongly with the overseas territories such as Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire in a major trade and with our oil potential bringing a refinery to those territories. Clarified the point, I prefer to go ahead.
Thanks to Czech “countrymen”, we were able to have a painting factory. We all bought the “Turk”, ate “Chinese”, put banana on the pizza of the “italian” and we all say “musiu” and even “pitiyankee”.
We shared with all at some point in our lives and made them feel Venezuelan. Here they took root and planted culture and values. How tasty it is to feel that this Land of Gracia is a melting pot of cultures where skin color does not define our genetics.
I'm not a linguist, much less a historian - that's a very serious thing - I'm just a curious person who tastefully learned to read and by passion to write, but I'm Venezuelan, the tricolor with its stars, lover of a good arepa and the beauty of our landscapes..
If you are part of this multiverse of nationalities and anecdotes of Venezuelans with roots of... I hope you to share your story and show that those here can have different skin color or facial features but love we offer between panas and family, or not?
