Part 1
The group, consisting of four cheerful thirties, went on their way to the former Dutch town that used to belong to Germany. The departure had been fleeting as they had all arrived too late at the agreed point, this time at the gas station. The departure of the gas pump meant the sound of the brand new scooters making it sound like four hard farts in the cold outside air. Now they were nervous in front of the traffic light to the driveway of the river bridge. A group of young cyclists came off the bridge quite swinging. When the traffic light jumped green, they crossed the intersection and did not turn left to the river bridge, but turn right towards the bridge. Quite quickly she reached the industrial area with only one large factory in the form of a yellow block box with exhaust pipe. The black clouds of smoke crawled out of the exhaust pipe as when firing a campfire in the open air. The eldest of the group of four named Nico watched the black clouds with excitement, because he wanted to cross the long bridge with his scooter. He felt his fear grabbing at his throat and accidentally pushed his accelerator a little too hard. He shot forward a little faster than usual, but was able to accelerate back just in time to correct his mistake. For a moment he breathed a deep sigh and remembered that his three friends on the other scooters knew about his fear of bridges. He told them that, too, but now came the moment of truth. From the tension he sighed deeply and kicked his accelerator again. At least two of his friends gave it a little bit to see if Nico was getting there.
Along the highway, Nico had landed with the thundering trucks that passed the guardrails. Just before the bridge ramp, Nico suddenly braked off and looked anxiously at the gray-grey asphalt on the bike path. His friends were seen above the river like little dolls, fluttering with their winter clothes and the fall helmet over their heads. Only Rens drove behind him and saw the braking happen, alongside the ever-raging vehicles. Rens himself began to slow down until he stood next to Nico and looked at him misunderstood. This was the moment of truth where the race had to be driven for victory. Nico wanted to turn around, but Rens drove steadfoot and had reached the first part of the bridge rail. I close my eyes thought Nico, I can't go back now, and for a moment he got a spastic pull in his leg. He nervously kicked his accelerator down deep, taking a first step to cross a bridge.
He looked Rens straight at the same time as he sat on the black saddle. The large rear light of the scooter was beautiful red in color, even though the daylight was enough to distinguish the scooter. Before he reached the second step the tension came back and that the river gets closer and closer. At the top of the bridge, the vehicles almost raged down in both directions of travel, which was not interested in Nico. The second step was reached with the highest point and a better view of the city, with all those buildings and meadows. The third step was to drive down the bridge, which was possible despite the strong crosswind from the left. Rens had already reached the other side of the bridge, which Nico wanted while he had difficulty controlling his scooter. Step four meant following his friend in this victory process, without looking down at the river below. He blinked his eyelashes for a moment and painstakingly clamped his teeth tightly together. Without thinking it went to his friends, which caused him a kind of bump in his stomach. The district on this side was built with houses, offices and the grey complex. Step four was almost in sight when the wind wanted to turn it back, towards the bridge rail, when a white van passed through the guard rails very hard. The sound of hitting the guardrails could not be heard but the still pulling crosswind. The wheels of his scooter slowly rolled forward, as his friends were getting closer and closer.
When he looked forward again to the side from where the grey complex stood, he saw Rens driving back from his stop at the other two friends. He didn't change his mind and drove straight for him. Rens saw Nico coming and went full in the brakes so as not to cause a collision. He breathed a deep sigh and cursed inside his mouth to indicate his irritation. He didn't think that was a big deal. Nico went to step four and thus to victory. It gave him a sense of irony.
