Walking around the ENCI - quarry in Limburg
70 million years back in time
In Limburg (NL) there are places where you can look into Pre-history! The deep quarries where more than 100 years of marl has been excavated show the layers of history very nicely. We went hiking in the ENCI - quarry near Maastricht.
No marl won in the ENCI quarry since 2019. The loosened vowels were ground to cement on the spot until that time. The area is currently being developed into a nature reserve (Natural Monuments).
You can walk around the quarry, and you can walk around the higher part of the quarry itself.
