Warm sweater day
Every year, we tackle energy waste with the biggest climate action in the Netherlands: Warm Sweater Day. Together, we offer a party of climate solutions for everyone. Put it in your agenda: on Friday 11 February 2022, we will celebrate the already 16th Warm Sweater Day!
Sheep, sheep give me nice wool
If the whole of the Netherlands lowers the heating one degree in one day, it saves us 63 million kilos of CO2, the initiators of Warmetruiendag charge us for. That's a lot. And with current energy prices, that is also nice for our wallet. With a sweater on, you won't get cold quickly. Then that sweater must consist of at least 60 percent natural wool, because wool is the warm holder under the yarns. Practically no synthetic yarn can match that. If that already retains heat, the moisture can't regulate the way wool can, giving you such a stuffy and stale feeling in your sweater.
'Wool is also bactericidal, dirt-repellent and self-cleaning'
A wool sweater almost does not need to be washed and lasts a long time. Those two things are quite decisive for the ultimate climate impact of a garment.
