We did it for you too.

“We did it for you too,” it sounds on the terrace in a big Dutch city.
I realize that the person who speaks these words believes them too.
A sturdy guy with a beard leans forward and looks at the speaker.
“if it was for us too, why shut down train traffic? and not some other kind of action”
The speaker looks at him and tells him that this was the only way to get attention.
“Then why not strike during Formula 1” asks a lady with a round face and red hair.
“because people want to take the train to Zandvoort,” says the speaker, clearly annoyed.
I get him, his statement was one of “sacrifice and heroism”, a feeling that seems to be completely destroyed by 2 people.
It's something people don't like, it's a kind of “attack” on an already existing perception of the ego, it's an agitation and escalation of the expected response.
A person who says “we did it for you too” expected a thank you, and understanding.
But here on this terrace behind a beer, however, the speaker only finds misunderstanding and resistance.
If these thoughts run through my head, the conversation has already continued, and it's not just the bearded man and the lady with the red hair anymore, there are more people who now seem to be torturing the apparent hero feelings that the speaker seemed to cherish. I understood the questions a little half, there were questions such as why there are no trains running after a concert, which the speaker dismisses as safety.
More people are now asking questions, or more or less doing a proclamation, which they package in the form of a question, things like “and why do I never see a conductor doing his job and only sitting in first grade”
The speaker is obviously more than annoyed right now, and with him, a lot of other.
I understand both parties, the speaker because he really believes that the cessation of NS staff was also done for the traveler, and the other people who probably suffered the brunt of the strike or of a problem at the ns.

I pay for my drinks and say goodbye to the person to about me.
when I arrive at the station I see a crowded platform with a whole row of people. when I fold my hands under my armpits and look at the row, all I can think.

I'm sure they did this for us, too.

The travelers would have more to do with punctuality actions, but yes, the strikers don't get along with that. Take it from me, no one ceases for pleasure, but sometimes it's the last resort. NS has cut too much in the staff in the past, they are now reaping the wry benefits of that.

Strike is allowed in our country, in fact, some of my colleagues will cease again soon. Do we do it for the traveller? Indirectly, I think so; happy staff is healthy staff, and so there is less downtime. But whether that outweighs the misery of the strike?. Nicely written!

Strikes are always at the expense of someone who has little to do with them, unfortunately. I have been a victim of it many times myself and really didn't feel like it was being done 'for me' at the time.
