Some animals can sense or feel infrared and UV light.

Bats have 3 heat-sensitive pits on their nose. Bats are blind, but they can still feel infrared energy from heat.

Insects generally have an antenna with an organ that resembles a cave. A type of gas or smell molecule then spreads into the air and lands on the antenna, allowing these insects to detect the frequency and direction.

Snakes have a pit organ that has nerve fibers and an antenna that detects a change in temperature, because snakes do not see light but feel warmth.

Here's a limited list of the animals that can feel both UV and infrared light:

  • some butterflies
  • goldfish
  • reindeer
  • sokeye salmon
  • some birds (budakeets, finches.)
  • jumping spiders
  • bees
  • peacocks
  • groove adders
  • vampire bats
  • some boas
  • beetles
  • bedbugs
