Adjectives are words that describe nouns or pronouns.It is useful to think that an adjective is
a " describing word."
●Example of Adjectives:
Old man: here "old'' is an adjective.
Green coat: In this example, "Green" is an adjective.
Cheerful one: here one is pronoun. As we know adjectives also modify pronouns.
So "Cheerful" is an adjective here.
When adjectives are used like this,they are called "attributive adjectives."
●Types Of Adjectives :
1-Comparative Adjectives:
Comparative adjectives are the adjectives used to compare two different people or things to
each other.
●Example:
The example of comparative adjectives includes "smaller,faster,more expensive etc.
2-Superlative adjectives :
Superlative adjective are the adjectives used to compare more than people or things which
indicate that one is the most supreme or extreme.
●Example :
Some examples of superlative adjectives include " smallest,loudest,most impressive etc.
3- Predicative Adjectives :
Predicative adjectives are the adjectives that appear in the predicate of a sentence as a
"subject complement" rather than next to noun or pronoun.
●Example :
•Andrea is "tall."
•Freddy became "angry."
•The steak looks "delicious."
4-Compound Adjectives :
Compound adjectives are the adjectives that are formed from multiple words,which are
usually connected by hyphen.
●Example:
Never_ending,cross-eyed,run- of the-mill.
5-Possessive adjectives :
Possessive adjectives are the adjectives used to express possession or ownership.
●Example:
My, its, your,her,whose etc..
6-Demonstrative Adjectives :
Demonstrative adjectives are the adjectives used to express relative positions in space and
time.
●Example :
Here are some examples of Demonstrative adjectives which include " this,that,these,those
etc.
7-Proper adjectives :
Proper adjectives are the adjectives formed from "proper nouns." It is used that something
is related to specific person or place "
●Example:
Some examples of proper adjectives include " African, Napoleonic,and Shakespearean."
8-Participial Adjectives:
Participle adjectives are adjectives that are based on "Participle", which are words that
usually end in -ed or -ing.
●Example:
Examples of participial adjectives include words like" amazing,impressed, and fascinating.
9-Limiting adjectives:
Limiting adjectives are adjectives that are restricted to a noun or a pronoun rather than
describe any of its characteristics or qualities.
●Example:
Limiting adjectives include words such as " these, your, and some.
10- Descriptive Adjectives :
Descriptive adjectives are the adjectives that describe the characteristic, traits, or quality of a
noun or pronoun.
●Example:
Descriptive adjectives include the words such as " purple, friendly, and attractive.
11-Interrogative adjectives:
Interrogative adjectives are adjectives that are used to ask a question.
●Example:
Interrogative adjectives include the words such as " what, which, and whose.
12- Attributive adjectives:
Attributive adjectives are the adjectives that are directly next to the noun or a pronoun that
they modify. It comes directly before a noun or a pronoun. But they can sometimes appear
after them.
●Example:
•She has "Beautiful" handwriting.
•The "Hungry" gorilla ate the fresh mangoes.
•Keith gave his dad something "special" for his birthday.
13- Distributive adjectives :
Distributive adjectives are the adjectives which is used to refer to members of a group individuals.
●Example :
Distributive adjectives include the words such as " each, every, either, and neither.
