A Snapchat streak is when you and a friend send each other direct snaps daily for several consecutive days. The longer you can maintain the streak, the better it is for your friendship and Snapchat score.

Since its release in 2011, Snapchat has grown in leaps and bounds, making it one of the most popular social media sites among the Gen Z generation. One of the many features that have made the site so popular is streaks, also known as Snapstreaks or Snapchat streaks, introduced in 2015.
In simple terms, a snap streak is when two friends on Snapchat have sent snaps to each other every single day for a while. Both friends have to send at least one snap to the other, so the streak will not work if it’s only one person sending.

You will know you have a snap streak with someone if a fire symbol is next to their name on your Snapchat friends list. There will also be a number next to the fire symbol to symbolize how many days the streak has been going on. For example, if you have been sending snaps to each other for six days straight, there will be a fire symbol and a number six next to your friend’s name. If one of you fails to send a snap for one day, the streak ends, and you have to start it again.

Snap Streak Emojis

Besides the fire symbol and the number of days next to it, other emojis can appear when you have a snap streak. These include;

•    100: The 100 emoji shows up when you have sustained the streak for 100 consecutive days.

•    Hourglass: The hourglass emoji comes up when the streak is about to end. This will alert you to send a snap before the 24 hours are over to avoid losing the streak.

•    Mountain: The mountain emoji is an elusive symbol that many haven’t seen yet. Ideally, it should appear when you have maintained an exceptionally long streak.

What’s the Purpose of a Snap Streak?

It’s difficult to understand the purpose of a snap streak and why today’s kids are so obsessed with it if you are not at that age. Essentially, a snap streak signifies the seriousness of that friendship, so the longer the streak lasts, the better your friendship is. However, some people maintain the streak for competition purposes because snap streaks improve your Snapchat score. Either way, you need to belong to a certain age group to appreciate the fun of snap streaks, especially when you have them running with multiple people.

Rules of Snap Streaks

The rules are simple. You and your friend have to send a snap to each other every 24 hours for more than a day. Note that the rules specify snaps or videos, so chatting, sending stories, memories, and spectacles will not work. You will also not have a streak if you send snaps to a group chat.
If you want to maintain a long snap streak, find a willing participant, preferably someone you chat with daily and won’t mind sending you snaps every day. If you are on a streak with multiple people, check your Snapchat streak filter to know who you are streaking with.

The point of snap streaks is to have fun, so keep it as simple as possible to avoid burning out and put reminders to ensure you don’t skip a day.
