What causes Nose bleeding?

The blood loss of nose tissues is known as nose bleeding. Mostly it occurs in one nostril but it badly affects both nostrils. There are no signs & symptoms of nose bleeding. It suddenly happens.

Causes of nose bleeds

Nose picking and nose dryness are the major causes of nose bleeding. Nose dryness mostly occurs during winter which results in nose bleeding. These two reasons for nosebleeding are linked together. When mucus in the nose dries out it results in nose-picking.

Also, Uses of illegal drugs, injury, and allergy are causes of nosebleeding. But these causes are not common.

Thrombus (blood clotting), high blood pressure, calcium deficiency, tumor, and infections cause nose bleeding in older age. There is also a rare disorder that is known as hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). It causes frequent nosebleeds which are a serious problem.

Prevent nosebleeds

You can reduce the chances of nose bleeding by doing some care. But you don”t prevent nose bleeding permanently.

To reduce the chances of nose bleeding, keep the fingernails of kids short.
Use a humidifier at night to prevent the dryness effects of hot air.
Stop the bad habit of smoking because it dries out your nose and results in nose bleeding.
Don’t shut your mouth while sneezing.
Use some petroleum jelly inside of your nose to keep it moisturized.
Don’ blow your nose hard and frequently.
Treatments for Nose bleeding

Nosebleeding is not a major disease. It can be treated at home by staying calm and active. Always try to keep calm when nose bleeding occurs in front of you or with you.

What to do when Nose bleeding happens?

When nose bleeding happens don’t lie on your back, because the blood will run into your throat.
Don’t swallow the blood because it causes vomiting.
Squeeze your nose softly with your index finger and thumb. Hold this position for 5 to 7 minutes or until the nose bleeding stops.
Use your mouth to take breathe.
Your head should be higher than your heart level.
Take some ice, wrap it in a towel or any other piece of cloth and apply it on your cheeks and nose.

What to do after nose bleeding?

Don’t put any medicine into your nose.
Open your mouth to sneeze, and provide the air a way to escape out.
Keep your heart and head balanced.
Don’t pick up any heavy material.
For at least 24 hrs, don’t use hot food or liquids.
