What do jellyfish eat

Jellyfish are a kind of marine invertebrates having umbrella-shaped bells and trailing tentacles. These tentacles sting their prey as they hang down from the smooth baglike body. It is believed that jellyfish have been existing on earth even before the dinosaurs. Today there are more than thousands of types of jellyfish are available in various shapes and sizes and colors. They are plentiful in cold and warm ocean water, deep water, and along coastlines, and pulse along with ocean currents. They are driven forward when they shoot water from their mouths.

What do jelly fish eat?
Jellyfish use stinging cells in their tentacles to shock or immobilise their food before devouring it.  Inside the jellyfish's bell-shaped body, there is a hole that is used to consume and throw waste. Fish, shrimp, crabs, and small plants are among their favourite foods. Jellyfish eat swiftly and digest their food quickly. If they had to carry a massive, undigested meal around, they wouldn't be able to float.

Reproduction of Jellyfish
If there is enough food, jellyfish spawn on a regular basis until they reach adulthood. Light regulates spawning in most species, with all individuals spawning at roughly the same time of day; in many cases, this is dawn or dusk. Adults often discharge sperm and eggs into the surrounding water, where unprotected eggs are fertilised and develop into larvae. In a few species, sperm swim inside the female's mouth and fertilise the eggs within her body, where they remain during the early stages of development. Moon jellies' oral arms serve as a temporary brood chamber for the planula larvae, which hatch from the eggs.

Humans and Jellyfish
Jellyfish stings could harm humans, as their stings could produce unpleasant symptoms such as itching, throbbing pain, swelling and burning sensation, etc. that could be hazardous in certain cases. The majority of stings occur when humans come into contact with a jellyfish by accident, but if the sting is from a harmful species, it can be fatal.
A variety of jellyfish such as scyphozoan jellyfish with moderate stings can be eaten. Consumable jellyfish are often found in estuaries and river mouth drainages and are mostly caught in the Western Central Pacific Oceans and Indo-West Pacific by the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and China. The jellyfish season is regulated by government fisheries departments in both China and Thailand. Because the jellyfish are at their largest and reproducing during the last few weeks of the season, governments prohibit capture. Australia, India, and the United States have recently begun to use their accessible species to make jellyfish items for export. Jellyfish come from all over the world to trade.
Jellyfish processing is best done within a few hours of collection, while the animals are still alive. Jellyfish's umbrella and oral arms are separated as soon as they are caught. Seawater is used to clean jellyfish, which is scraped to remove mucus membranes and gonadal debris. They are prepared in many ways such as salads and other similar dishes. Some say they taste salty while others compare it with the taste of noodles.
