For two years, we have decided that we are going to ask for outings, outings that our children give us as gifts. A day at the amusement park, zoo, museum, that kind of thing. My oldest had given a day at the Zuiderzee museum but it didn't happen last year, so this year it was a day at the Zuiderzee museum with an overnight stay and enjoy wandering around other beautiful towns in the area the day before. We went to Hoorn first. A really great city, it exudes history, history that comes to life in the buildings, in the alleys and in various museums and galleries. In short, enjoy! Unfortunately, there was a fair, the entire city was marred by the associated events. There is nothing wrong with the fair, but that's not what we came for. Fortunately, we were able to see a few things about the city. The best part of what we saw was an exhibition by the artists' association. Every six weeks, a different exhibition can be admired here. Now it was an exhibition by Philine van der Vegte

We saw an old stately building and the door was open. I couldn't resist peeking around the corner. An art exhibition. Farm life portrayed in paintings. But my gaze rose, mighty beams held a very high ceiling in place. These beams were decorated by amazing carvings. One of the ladies from the exhibition came to us and I apologised for my lack of attention to the paintings. All beautifully painted and depicting life on the farm. My apologies were accepted with a laugh and I was immediately given a note telling me what the woodcarving, which I clearly admired, was supposed to represent: mythological figures. My eyes shoot over the artworks (the ones on the ceiling) I'm looking for what mythology there is, unfortunately I don't recognize it. Then my eye goes to the note and I get my recognition: Hercules and Minerva (see image on the right). Now just look back between the images and yes, they are there. Along with many other characters that appeal to the imagination. This is what I came for. This is the basis for a lot of stories that I and my writers can dig into wwwdedraaischrijfnl .

My gaze goes down and I get the explanation at the building: an old sandwich hall, but it would also have housed a small hospital. So wonderful stories.

Now back to the hospitable lady who showed me around the sandwich hall so wonderfully. She really wanted me to look at art too. That's what I did, too. And indeed, although it is very beautifully painted, this is not my taste. So the painter also mentioned that to my 'guide'. Both were just really happy to see us enjoying what we saw. That's something I really appreciate. For art lovers who immortalize farm life: I really think these paintings are an asset. Not only because the art itself is a beautiful representation, but also because its creator can tell it with so much experience She enjoys enjoying others, is passionate about her work and lets them come to life in her entire actions. For example, she told me in the scents and colors of the straws that are depicted around a huge bull (see image on the left). She told sperm straws and how children loved them. I had to switch for a while, but the story wasn't finished yet. The name of the bull: 'Donald' was painted on one of the straws, 600 in total. So the kids started looking for the one with 'Donald' written on it. Wonderful how interactive enjoyment also comes back to art. A small addition makes this painting a complex quest. Secretly, I also took a second look. I want these ladies to have a great time in the sandwich hall with a lot of visitors (buyers are also allowed, of course), maybe it's a nice gift if you don't know what to ask your children!)

The artist? Philine van der Vegte.
