Usually, each exchange receiver item will have more than one host address per type of external address with one address. Addresses for all types of external addresses are named by a dynamic library known as the DLL. The DLL location specified as an address type identifier at the time of entering the address type in the Microsoft Active Directory.
Users can have a primary or secondary address. The primary user address is used to send email to an unknown system while the second type is used when an anonymous system sends the email to users. The primary address is used for outgoing messages as the sender address while the recipient in the message list will be matched to Active Directory List in line with the secondary proxy addresses to search for the correct recipient for incoming messages. The user may have only one primary address but may have multiple secondary addresses. For example, if two companies combine and provide new email addresses to their employees, secondary addresses can be used so that employees receive emails from both their new and old email addresses. Since old email addresses remain as secondary addresses, incoming emails can be redirected to a new or old address. At the same time, the outgoing email will always be considered the main proxy address.
There should be a gateway to generate addresses for the following types of recipient items: groups, contacts, public folders, and users. The gateway does not need to generate a single address only. To view an alternate user address, you can click on the "Email Addresses" tab on the property page in the Active Directory Users and Computers app. The application is under the node of the Program Files or Administration Tools on the Microsoft Windows server. You can easily create a proxy address manually using the user interface or you can take the default route using the proxy production DLL. If the gateway provides an anonymous messaging system to the Microsoft Exchange Server system you will need to provide a proxy DLL associated with the Address Type object.
Proxy generation DLL will fulfill the many tasks required by the exchange server to create addresses. When a new address is entered, a DLL generating proxy related to the new external address type will be called in to generate a unique and new proxy address for each user. After a new user is added, a DLL that generates a proxy for all types of addresses will be notified to create new user addresses.
