What does Empathize mean?
Social Interaction pivots on empathy and is often described as its “binding force”. Empathy in general is an interaction between any two individuals, with one experiencing and sharing the feeling of the other. Humans are social animals, in an age where machines are learning to think like us (Humans), emotions help us stand out.
Empathy needs complex cognitive activity in most animals (Ex: elephants and comfort dogs) although humans need to process far complex social cues but we convince ourselves to just sympathize instead. Then the question arises, what limits us to empathize? What are the factors that contribute to such behavior?
There are two flavors of empathy, Affective Empathy and Cognitive Empathy. Affective Empathy maps to our feelings where we mimic the expression (facial, tactile or speech) to extend comfort to individuals in concern. Cognitive Empathy, on the other hand, helps us decode others emotions and their cause of occurrence.
