What does fox eat?

What are foxes?

Foxes are small medium-sized omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of the family Canidae.
They have a flattened skull, upright triangular ears, a pointed slightly upturned snout and a long bushy tail. They live on every continent except Antarctica and the most common widespread species of fox is the red fox. In the wild, the typical lifespan of a fox is one to three years although individuals may live up to ten years. They are not always packed animals, they live in small family groups but some such as arctic foxes are known to be solitary. The way they sound may be whining, yelp, explosive call, combative call,
growl, or bark.

What do foxes eat?

They have a varied diet. Urban foxes eat earthworms, insects, fruit and vegetables, and a wide variety of
both domestic wild birds and mammals.

1. Fruits and vegetables: examples are blackberries, Kurrajong, apples, plums, grapes, dates, figs,
acorns, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, persimmons, and mulberries.

2. Birds: examples are pheasant, poultry, and scaup.

3. Invertebrates: examples are beetles, butterflies and moths, earthworms, grasshoppers and
crickets, slugs and snails, spiders, Crain flies, and many more.

4. Vertebrate: examples are rats, squirrel, hedgehog, otter, weasel, deer, European badger,
opossum, porcupine, domestic cats, water vole, wild boar, kangaroos, red tailed maggot and so
much more.
