What Does Manifestation Mean?

Manifestation is essentially the proof of the reality of something, but it can also mean the act of turning something from an idea into a reality.
The term manifestation has never been more popular. But, while most people first heard of it in the 2006 best-selling book, The Secret, it is really the internet that has done all the work.

Today, you cannot spend two minutes on YouTube without a video on manifestation popping up. Of course, the term manifestation wouldn’t be legit without the influence and backing of famous people like Oprah, Deepak Chopra, Iyanla Vanzant, and even Steve Harvey.

The question is, what does manifestation mean, and is it real?

The word manifestation refers to a sign of something existing or happening, according to the Cambridge dictionary. Using the word in a sentence, you can say that “the rise in unemployment is a manifestation of the government’s corruption and incompetence.”

In the law of attraction, however, manifestation is defined as the art and bringing a dream/goal into a state of being real. Proponents of manifestation believe that you can get anything you want as long as you believe it, ask for it and work for it.

Is Manifestation Real?

There are two schools of thought about manifestation; one is action-based, and the other is faith-based. While these two classes of people have completely different theories, they both agree that manifestation is real and it works.

Action Manifestation

According to licensed therapist Tanya Peterson, manifestation is all about positioning yourself to manifest your deepest dreams. In other words, you have to take action to achieve every goal you have.

The argument behind this is that in the face of trouble and uncertainty, the amygdala (the part of the brain that processes threatening stimuli) gets stimulated. As a result, people become more reactionary and settle for whatever state life throws at them.

By focusing on manifestation, you essentially take your focus from the negative and look for an alternative life. This activates your frontal lobe allowing you to be more focused, motivated, and productive. So instead of reacting and settling for a mediocre life, you get up and start working on the life you want. This action is what manifests your dream life sooner or later.

Faith Manifestation

On the other hand, it is common knowledge that everything is energy and has vibrations. To manifest what you want, you have to match your vibration with the object of your desire to attract it. Proponents of faith-based manifestation believe in having positive energy, gratitude, affirmations, vision boards, and even journaling. The purpose of all these elements is to raise your vibrational frequency so you can attract your dream life.

That said, this class of people also believes in taking action. For example, you cannot manifest a dream job if you haven’t applied for it or possessed the necessary qualifications. Similarly, you cannot manifest a soulmate if you never meet people, or you are a sour person.

For the most part, faith-based manifestation demands you to become what you want. Do you want to find love? Be the embodiment of that love you want. Do you want to be wealthy? Be a person who is worthy of wealth.
Whichever version of manifestation you choose to believe in, the bottom line is that it works. The universe will reward you if you deeply desire something and you work towards it. As the saying goes, if you can imagine it, you can see it.
