About NCIS

NCIS refers to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. It is a department of the Navy. It functions as a civilian federal law enforcement agency of America. This department is entrusted with the special responsibility of investigating serious crime, preventing terrorism and protecting the secrets of the Navy and Marine Corps.


Function of NCIS

NCIS is always committed to protecting and protecting Navy and Marine Corps warriors. The task of the NCIS is to carefully deal with threats from foreign intelligence, terrorist activities, and the criminal spectrum by conducting specific operations and investigations at sea, onto the shore and in cyberspace.


Status of NCIS

The organization is composed of approximately 2,000 personnel and over 1,000 serving as federal special agents. NCIS enjoys special status among US military criminal investigative organizations. The most important thing about this agency is that it is operated by a citizen. It is headed by a civil law enforcement professional who reports all of his work directly to the secretary.

NCIS is an ever-growing agency and today offers its distinguished services with approximately 191 branches in more than 41 countries. This organization has made its presence felt across the world. NCIS is the first US federal law enforcement agency responsible for US interests abroad.


NCIS work in world level

NCIS serves its major naval commands around the world. In addition, NCIS Special Agents are deployed overseas with all Navy aircraft carriers and amphibious task forces. U.S. Navy ships are routinely screened and operated by NCIS agents prior to their departure to non-Navy ports. These agents identify security threats and work closely with domestic and foreign counterparts to thwart them. From time to time, NCIS also undertakes protective service operations for senior naval officers and visiting dignitaries.


NCIS - A Global Identity

Today the agency has become a global identity around the world. Despite the relatively modest force structure, NCIS often operates in locations where local, state or foreign law enforcement agencies have primary jurisdiction. It is therefore considered necessary for NCIS to partner with other law enforcement agencies.


Special Task of NCIS

The job of NCIS agents is to regularly monitor criminal incidents with local, state, federal and foreign law enforcement and security agencies. NCIS is responsible for identifying and eliminating threats to the security and assets of US Navy forces. NCIS also works to advance joint active operations.

NCIS has initiated the Law Enforcement Information Exchange (LInX) program and through this program pioneered information-sharing between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. This is a special program that takes place abroad in the U.S. enables unprecedented exchange of criminal data between agencies in eight key areas.


Associated with other groups

NCIS has partnerships with the international law enforcement community.  This institution always welcomes and supports new and innovative approaches. NCIS is always on the lookout for new partners and always ready to save the nation from all kinds of problems.


Conclusion

As part of its ongoing effort to expand its relationships with other agencies as a security agency, NCIS provides law enforcement and security forces training.  Shares their experiences in behavioral assessment, organizes seminars on resolution of critical issues for the nation.  NCIS also leads new information sharing efforts with peer agencies.
