What does SUS means?

The word itself has become a phenomenon this year, from challenges to the origins.

If you’ve played the game “Among Us” then you know what I’m talking about. It’s a game where you are on a spaceship with your crewmates, but there is a twist there is an imposter among the crew that we have to find before someone dies.

In the game when we think one of the crewmates might be an imposter we say ‘’ Yellow seems sus’’ in other words the yellow player seems suspicious.
Sus is also a British word for a law in which someone has committed a crime. Other words for Sus mean a person who is shady.

    How to know if someone is sus?

It can be divided into two categories people and things
People that try to keep the truth away or are lying about something are considered as “sus”. The word can also be used for people with malicious intentions that makes you feel confused in which case you say “something’s sus”.

On the other hand, this term can be used for objects that you bought of the internet. Let’s say you bought Nike shoes online when you saw it in person it was a fake which will be stated as “sus”.

History

In Short Even though the word is not new and has been used before, but because of a game it become a symbol of pop-culture. If you open up YouTube and type the word “sus” there are many videos about it Tiktok challenges, games.

Many people also made lots of memes on the word as well for example.


The word was also used to target people of color in UK especially for Black and South Asian people. This caused tensions for communities through the country and caused to spark riots in 1980s

Throughout the early 2000s it was used word by many people especially, Black musicians like Tyler, the Creator etc.
After the rise of “Among Us” the word gained a new path of fame and is become like a slang for Gen-z than a using it for its actual meaning.
