The Buxus moth is a night moth originally from the Far East, but since 2006 this moth has also been found in Europe and since 2011 this pest has also been singled in the Netherlands. In 2017, the boxwood moth was a big scourge in parts of the Netherlands, or actually it is not the moth, but the larva of the moth, the boxwood caterpillar, which we have to see as a pest. Nooit last ervan gehad, maar dit jaar wel. Honderden rupsen op een buxusstruik en ze kruipen alle kanten op.

Het gaat erg goed met dit beestje en daardoor slecht met de buxusstruik in ons land. Wist je dat alle buxussen bij Paleis Het Loo verwijderd moesten worden vanwege deze veelvraat? Ze kozen een vervangende struik, met minder kans op ziektes.

Nee, dat had ik niet gehoord. Idd het is vooral sinds 2017 dat dit beestje echt een plaag vormt in Nederland.
