The most current version of cellular technology, 5G, has been developed to increase the speed and responsiveness of wireless networks significantly. Some estimates place wireless broadband data transfer speeds as high as 20 Gigabits per second, making it possible for data to be transmitted at multi-gigabit rates (Gbps). These rates are quicker than those of a landline network and have a latency of less than one millisecond (ms).

Wireless systems will significantly increase data capacity by 5G because of their increased bandwidth and improved antenna technology. Mobile and internet-enabled gadgets are becoming increasingly important. Thus 5G networks and services will be implemented in stages over the next few years.

How Does 5G Work?

Wireless networks are made up of cell sites separated into sectors and transmit data through radio waves. The basis for 5G is fourth-generation (4G) Long-Term Evolution (LTE) wireless technology.

It doesn't require the use of enormous, high-power cell towers to transmit signals over long distances, as is the case with 4G. Many microcell stations are placed on light poles or building rooftops to transmit 5G wireless signals.
