Introduction
A communist is a person who upholds the beliefs of the communism. Communism is a philosophic, societal, legal, and financial philosophy and movement aimed at establishing a communist state, that is, a sociopolitical order based on the ideals of collective ownership of production and the loss of social classes, currency, and the government. Thus, a communist is a person who views the society as working for the improvement of a person’s individuality instead of hoarding all the powers regarding his/her social, economic and political aspects of life.
Let us learn about communism and being communist in detail:
What is Communism in Simple Terms?
Communism is a political and economic theory that seeks to replace people's ownership and a profit-based economics with government hands and social management of at least the principal means of production (such as mines, mills, and factories) and a current societal natural resources.
As per its supporters, communism is a higher and more evolved type of socialism. The precise contrast between communism and socialism has long been debated, although the distinction is mostly based on communist' devotion to Karl Marx's revolutionary socialism.
Background information
Although the name communism did not become popular until the 1840s—it is derived from the Latin communis, which means "shared" or "common"—visions of a communist system arose as early as the 4th century BCE. The political class of guardians in Plato's Republic commits itself to serving the interests of the entire society. Plato stated that just because free enterprise corrupts its owners by fostering materialism, the guardian must live as a big family that shares similar possession of not just tangible property but also spouses and children.
Other early communist views were influenced by religion. The earliest Christians adopted a basic type of communism, as detailed in Acts 4:32–37, as a form of solidarity and a means of renunciation of earthly property. Similar motivations eventually motivated the establishment of monastic organisations in which monks signed poverty vows and swore to share their meagre worldly possessions with one other and the needy. In Utopia (1516), the English humanist Sir Thomas More developed this monastic communism by describing a hypothetical society in which money is abolished and people share meals, housing, and other assets in common.
Bottom Line - Communism in Present Times
For most of the twentieth century, communist governments ruled over around one-third of the worldwide people. These governments were distinguished by a single party's control, which permitted little opposition and minimal disagreement. In addition, instead of a capitalist economy in which people compete for profits, party leaders built a command economy in which the state owned property and its bureaucrats set salaries, prices, and production targets.
The inefficiencies of these industries played a significant role in the Soviet Union's demise in 1991, and the surviving communist nations (with the exception of North Korea) are now permitting greater economic competitiveness while maintaining one-party control. It remains to be seen if they will be successful in their endeavor. Whether it succeeds or fails, communism is definitely not the world-changing force it was in the twentieth century.
