Coffee is one of the most widely consumed and loved beverages around the world. Coffee drinking is a tradition that is embedded as a practice in many cultures. As a result coffee culture has become a very profitable industry. Today, most people who drink coffee are daily drinkers and crave that extra pump of adrenaline each day.
One way to brew coffee using the french coffee press. A French press consists (usually) of a glass beaker and metal mesh filter some will have a metal beaker instead. The coffee is filtered by pressing on the plunger pushing the coffee granules to the bottom of the beaker. The full-bodied coffee is ready to be poured into a mug and enjoyed after.
You would think that because it is called the french press it is obvious that the device was invented by the French. This is not entirely the case. The origin of the french press is somewhat contentious as the french and Italians both claim to be the inventors of the device that is now a commonly owned kitchen gadget. In 1852, two french inventors first had their design for the french press patented and it was not until 1928 when two Italians also submitted patents for their press.
French pressed coffee can be made at home and is also found in cafes. However, since it is a cheaper coffee brewing technique many people have a french press in their homes. As compared to a coffee filtering machine or an espresso machine, a french press is more economical if youβre not looking to spend a lot. You can find a french press in small, medium or large size depending on what you want. The cost of getting one can be anywhere from $9 to $100 for a top of line french press. In the United States alone 2.5 million french presses are sold each year.
Making your own French pressed coffee may seem easy, however, just like any other brewing technique, there is a science to brewing a decent cup. You will need ground coffee and boiling water.
Here are the steps to making a cup of coffee using the French Press.
Add ground coffee to the press - for each cup of water you should add two tablespoons of ground coffee.
Boil your water - make sure that your water is hot enough to brew the coffee grounds. Typically make sure that your water reaches boiling point.
Add the boiling water to the press
Stir the water and coffee grounds
Do not add sugar or anything else to the french press. You can add these things separately in your mug.
Itβs that simple! Master these few basics and you will become a master of the french pressed coffee in no time. I hope this post helps anyone who wants to buy a french press get some information to start using a french press.
