What is a Matryoshka?

A Matryoshka is a hollow wooden doll. If you open it, there's another doll inside. If you open that doll, there's another doll in there, and go on like this... You must have seen them somewhere once! Maybe you have one of your own?

The stacking of the smaller dolls in the larger and larger dolls would be a symbol for in the big mother's puppet becomes a symbol of fertility, and eternal life. On average, a Matryoshka consists of 7 or 8 dolls. The matryoshkas are originally from Russia and the dolls are known all over the world. The name comes from the Russian word Matryoshka. It's a nickname for a peasant.

They are beloved souvenirs for tourists! And admittedly, they're pretty cute little gadgets!
