It is written in some books of Greek writers that Tiresias, the blind seer, told the mother of narcissus that he would live a long life only if he cannot recognize himself.
Narcissus was known for his extraordinary beauty in Greek mythology when he reached his teenage. The youth bloomed him in a very handsome man so much that he couldn’t find any maiden attractive for himself. Many maidens left heartbroken. It is known that some men fell in love with him as well. Narcissus, one day saw his own reflection in a pool of water and have started fell in love with his own reflection. He couldn’t keep himself away from his reflection. He got weak and thin lying there seeing his reflection. This extreme one-way love took his life away. He died of starvation, thirst, and hunger. The words of Tiresias turned into reality as narcissus died when he recognized himself. A beautiful flower grew up at the place where he died, as is now recognized as narcissus.
The Myth of Narcissus and Echo:
The Roman writer Ovid has written in his book that narcissus rejected the very pretty nymph Echo who dies later by the sadness of rejection and her voice echoed her plight. The god punished narcissus for his negligence as he died falling in love with himself.
In other stories have described Echo was penalized by Hera as she distracted the goddess with stories whereas the mountain nymphs’ lovers of her husband Zeus, escaped the mountain peak suddenly. This explains why Echo could solely repeat what others said to her. One day Narcissus came out in forest hunting deer. A useless exchange of perennial words and statements occurred, echo wanted to embrace the beautiful youth, however he rejects her and knocks off back home. Echo was then pined away within the forest in order that her body at last perished away but her voice kept echoing over her terrible and sorrowful condition.
