The word “pentatonic” comes from the Greek word pente which means five and tonic tone. Simply put, the pentatonic scale consists of five tones within one octave, which is why it is also referred to as a five-tone scale. The main pentatonic scale also gets its name because it is five notes from the seven notes of the major scale, while the small pentatonic scale has five notes from the small pentatonic scale. Pentatonic scales tend to sound good despite random orders due to the absence of dissonant intervals between them. This is one of the most widely used scales for rock and guitar music due to its great sound during chord changes in a keyboard. You can easily find the pentatonic scale with a piano by simply pressing the black tones.
