What is a polygon

A polygon is any plane figure bounded by a straight line e.g triangle, rectangle, trapezium, pentagon, hexagon e t c….
(From the Greek word "poly" many "many")
Note that a triangle is a polygon of 3 side
A quadrilateral is a polygon of four sides
A pentagon is a polygon of 5 sides
A hexagon is a polygon of six sides
A septagon or heptagon is a polygon of seven sides
An octagon is a polygon of 8 side
A nanogon is a polygon of nine Sides
A decagon is a polygon of 10 sides, etc.

Usually will refer to any with more than four sides, as a polygon with so many sides. Since a polygon is a closed figure it has the same number of angles as the sides, ie if it has n sides then there are n angles in it.

Types of polygon
Types of polygons include:
Regular polygon: any polygon whose sides are all equal to each other is called a regular polygon, that is all sides and all angles are equal. eg an equilateral triangle is a polygon of three sides. A square is a regular polygon of four sides, etc. a regular polygon has all its sides equal and also the interior and exterior angles equal. Examples of a regular polygon are equilateral triangles, the square, etc…

• Square
  A square is a parallelogram that has the following properties:
  The angles are all right angles
  The sides are all equal
  The diagonals are equal
  The diagonals bisect each other at a right angle,
  The diagonals bisect the angle
• Irregular polygon: any polygon whose all sites and angles are not equal. Examples of the irregular polygon are the trapezium, the rectangle, etc …..
• Trapezium
  A trapezium is a quadrilateral with one pair of opposite sides parallel. The difference between the trapezium and a parallelogram is that in a trapezium only one pair of opposite sides are parallel, while in a parallelogram both pairs of opposite sides are parallel.
  Rectangle
  A rectangle is a parallelogram that has the following properties:
  The angle is right angles
  The diagonals are equal in length
