The saxophone belongs to the woodwind family of instruments. It is usually made of brass and is played with a single wooden wicker mouthpiece, similar to a clarinet. Like the clarinet, saxophones have holes in the instrument that the player controls using a key lever system. When the musician presses a key, a path covers a hole, lowering or raising the pitch. The saxophone was invented by the Belgian Adolphe Sax and exhibited for the first time in the world during the exhibition in Brussels in 1841.

Adolphe Sax

Adolphe Sax was born on November 6, 1814 in Dinant (Belgium). His father, Charles, was a musical instrument maker. During his childhood Adolphe studied clarinet and flute at the Brussels Conservatory. His father's passion for making musical instruments influenced him greatly, and he began to make plans to improve the tone of the bass clarinet. What he came up with was a single reed instrument made of metal with a cone-shaped bore and surpluses on the octave.
