Introduction to Alcoholic Anonymous (AA)
Alcoholics Anonymous AA is a global community-based effort to help those struggling with problem drinking. The program helps these people become sober in support of their teammates through regular discussions and meetings related to the topic of addiction. AA acts as a platform for addicted men and women to come together to share their own experiences, attempt recovery with the help of their colleagues under the guidance of one who is successful through the program and maintain grief. .
The concept of anonymous alcoholism is based on the belief that drinking is a disease and incurable but can be managed by controlling only.
AA was founded by Bill Wilson and Doctor Bob Smith, his physician in 1935. It eventually grew to join more groups in 1939. In the same year, B. Wilson published the Big Book as we call it ito.
Big Book AA explains the philosophy and methodology behind the team concept. The sum of which can be distilled in a twelve-step manner for recovery and hygiene. The 12-step method has become well-known and effectively replicated in other groups of addiction recovery groups such as gambling, drugs and narcotics and other forms of addiction.
The Twelve Steps
Here are 12 steps. You can also explore them in depth and how others have applied the principles to their lives and gained insight, experience, strength, and hope.
Step 1: Honesty
After many years of rejection, recovery can begin when there is a simple admission of alcoholism β for alcoholics and their friends and family.
Step 2: Faith
It seems to be a spiritual truth, that before a higher power can begin to work, you must first believe that it can.
Step 3: Surrender
A lifetime of self run chaos can come to a screeching halt, and change forever, by making a simple decision to turn it all into a higher power.
Step 4: Soul Search
There is a saying in 12-step programs that recovery is a process, not an event. The same can be said for this step β more will certainly be announced.
Step 5: Integrity
Probably the hardest of all the steps to deal with, Step 5 also provides one of the greatest opportunities for growth.
Step 6: Acceptance
The key to Step 6 is accepting acceptance of character defects exactly what they are and being fully willing to pursue them.
Step 7: Humility
The spiritual focus of Step 7 is humility, which requires a higher power to do something that cannot be done by oneβs own will or sole determination.
Step 8: Willingly
Making a list of those hurt before coming to recovery may sound simple. Being willing to actually make the payments is the hard part.
Step 9: Forgiveness
Making payments may seem like a bitter pill to swallow, but for those serious about recovery, it can be great medicine for spirit and soul.
Step 10: Retention
No one wants to admit to being wrong. But it is really necessary to maintain spiritual progress in recovery
Step 11: Making contact
The purpose of Step 11 is to discover Godβs plan as you understand Him for your life.
Step 12: Services
For those in recovery programs , the training in Step 12 is simply "how it works."
