What is ARC HDMI?

ARC completes dual-way transmission of audio data via a single HDMI cable. The most important function of HDMI ARC is that it can send signals both upstream and downstream. Suppose you want to watch HD content from an OTT platform on your smart TV. You can set up a TV and soundbar with a single arc cable.

Are all HDMI ports HDMI ARC?

Recently, all HDMI ports come with Arc compatibility. However, we must read the user's manual carefully to determine if a particular device is arc-enabled.

The use of HDMI Arc reduces the need to use an additional optical cable for transmitting audio downstream. Not all HDMI port arcs are supported. We should keep in mind that we cannot use any external device to convert regular HDMI to HDMI arc.

Does HDMI ARC sound good?
HDMI Arc is considered the best option for high-quality audio. Although optical cables provide satisfactory sound, HDMI may be a better choice for arc quality and minimal cable connection.

Most TVs still use optical cables for sound transmission. But, if we want to hear the top sound, we can use an HDMI arc. Also, some technologies like Dolby Digital Plus, DTS HD, True HD, etc. do not support optical cable. Only the arc can fulfill the purpose. HDMI Arc supports every possible virtual audio format and sounds the best.

Can the HDMI ARC output on my TV be used as normal HDMI?
We can of course use the HDMI arc output on the TV as a generic HDMI. By connecting a simple HDMI cable to the arc jack, we can make it work like regular HDMI.

Sometimes the TV or soundbar does not have any HDMI arc enabled In that case, we can't get an arc connection. In that case, if we connect an ordinary HDMI cable to the arc port, although it may not provide high-quality audio like arc, it can give regular sound. But we can't get an arc advantage with normal HDMI.
