What is music science?
Music science is the academic and scientific study of music. It includes the study of all kinds of music from all over the world; from art music to folk songs, from European music to non-Western music.
Musicology
Aside from the study of music, music science also includes:
- the study of various musical forms and the evolution of musical notation
- the study of various musical instruments
- the study of the elements of music and music theory
- the study of composers, musicians and performers
- the study of how music is perceived and how it affects or affects a listener
Middle Ages
During the medieval period, two inventions were made that would greatly help choirs sing in harmony and to watch them sing. These inventions were made by a monk and a choir leader named Guido de Arezzo. His innovations marked a change in how music should be taught and prompted other theorists to create other ways to teach theory and notation.
