What is National education policy (NEP) in India?

The growth and prosperity of a nation depend on its education. In India, three education policy has been introduced to date. These policies are national education policy 1968, national education policy 1986, and national education policy 2020. Under the guidance and chairmanship of former ISRO chief Dr. K. KasturiRangan a committee was formed for the modification of the new education policy. The draft of NEP was presented by the committee in May 2019.

Very rightly said by our honorable Missile man” the purpose of education is to make good human beings with skill and experience. Enlightened human beings can be created by teachers”. On 29 July 2020, after the replacement of the existing national educational policy the new NEP came into existence.


The necessity of NEP 2020:
•    The main aim of NEP,2020 is to focus on the multi-disciplinary development of the students.
•    The NEP will help the students to pursue their careers in a multi-dimensional way.
•    This change will help fulfill the aim of the young aspirants whether they are from urban or rural backgrounds.
•    This will not only provide many new ways of life but also bring out the hidden talent of the students in a different field.


Objective:
•    To do away with the educated unemployment of the country by providing an abundant opportunity to the variety of fields that are available in the present-day society.


Challenges of New education policy, 2020:
•    Admission to foreign universities are expected to be expensive under the new education policy, 2020
•    In elementary schools, there is a lack of resources and best teachers who can properly guide the students and make them understand the technologies.
•    In schools, skills and advanced teachers are necessary. Due to the advancement in technologies, new forms of teaching are being introduced like the smart classroom and vocational education.

Some major changes that happened in the NEP, 2020 are:
1.    According to the policy the current 10 + 2 system is to be replaced by 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 modules.
2.    The structure will be as per the age of 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 11-18 accordingly.
3.    Here children will study for 3 years as re-schooling as Anganwadi, next one for 2 years i.e 1 and 2, next one is for 5 years for 3 to 8 years old.
4.    Children from classes 3 to 5 will be taught science, mathematics, arts, etc, and with experimentation for 8 to 11 years old.
5.    From 6 to 8 classes these students would be guided with basic courses like the vocational course and project-based skills.
6.    Lastly, students of classes 9 to 12 will get full freedom to choose the subject and some subjects will remain as compulsory. And the 2nd phase contains students of 11 and 12.

Education provides the proper knowledge to a student which is necessary for all. Life without education is fish without water. In the era of the 21st century where everyone is running behind success having a lack of education seems like a curse. With the introduction of NEP,2020 education has become more interesting than earlier.
