Human beings possess nine kinds of emotions that are positive and negative. We need to control all our emotions to lead a peaceful life. Navratri is devoted to Goddess Durga and her nine incarnations and is celebrated for nine days.
The term "Navarasa" means nine emotions. Nine emotions are Shringara (love/beauty), Hasya (laughter), Karuna(sorrow), Raudra (anger), Veera (heroism/courage), Bhayanaka (terror/fear), Bibhatsa (disgust), Adbutha (surprise/wonder), Shantha (peace or tranquillity).Emotions cannot be terminated but can be controlled positively. Let's explore each of the nine emotional states of mind.
1.    Shringara (beauty/love)
It marks the love and inner beauty such as truth, honesty, humanity, kindness and non-violence. These elements teach us to share and careabout our surroundings and keep us happy. We should love all the creatures of Earth and abide by nature.
2.    Hasya (laughter)
It means happiness. Happiness leads us to good health and a positive state and eliminates negativity from our surroundings. So, let's spread joy and illuminate our lives.
3.    Karuna (pity)
Like joy and sorrow, we consider pityas an emotion. This emotion forgives pain and enables us to lead a peaceful life. We must show kindness to each other during sad and suffering.
4.    Raudra (angry)
It consists of emotions of hatred, violence, aggression and brutality. A wave of anger can destroy everything and can make more enemies. So, let's control this demon to make our life prosperous.
5.    Veera (heroism or courage)
Maa Durga symbolises heroism, courage, bravery, and fearlessness. Each human has a hidden warrior inside. One needs to be brave, strong and confident and speak up against injustice.
6.    Bhayanaka(fear)
We experience fear when our life is out of control and we lack inner strength. Fear comes when we are trapped, insecure, worried or self-doubt.
7.    Bibhatsa(disgust)
It is regarded as self-hatred, self-pity and critical. We should control our minds and fill them with good morals and positive thoughts. A good state of mind can balance everything. We can make our life enjoyable if we keep ourselves away from negative aspects.
8.    Adbutha (wonder)
Wonder means astonishment or surprise. This emotion comes when we fall in love with little things and when we get or experience something new in life.
9.    Shanta (peace)
Peace means calm, soothing and contented. Inner peace is an essential thing in a human's life. Likewise, you can avoid anger, hatred, jealousy, bitterness and negative thought with peace. Peace can make your life happy and cheerful.
