What is prom

Prom night is a tradition in which high school juniors and seniors dress up and engage in events centered on a dance. Although prom events vary by region in the United States, most include dates, prom gowns, tuxedos, supper, and dance. Prom is a formal dance that occurs at the end of a senior's high school tenure. It's one last opportunity for the class to come together, have some fun, and celebrate their achievements. A normal prom is conducted on a Saturday evening between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. for 2 to 4 hours.

Pre-Prom Group Photos
The start of prom night is traditionally marked by group pictures. Teens, both with and without dates, frequently congregate in larger groups prior to dinner and prom. This is an opportunity for close friends to take photos together and create a new memory.

Plans for Prom Night Dinner
If the prom involves dinner, go directly there after photographs. This is especially usual if the prom is hosted at an event center or banquet hall. Dinner may last from one to 2 hours and can be either a prepared meal chosen ahead of schedule or a buffet. If the prom does not involve a sit-down meal, many youth arrange dinner reservations with their companions or a small group. The following are the primary prom dinner options:

•    Visit a fast-food restaurant or diner: These restaurants don't involve reservations, are great for last-minute organizing, are more economical, and provide for fantastic photo possibilities with everyone dressed up in a relaxed setting.
•    Arrange a potluck supper at the house: For a home-style family dinner, one person hosts the dinner at their home, and everybody provides a dish to contribute.

Going to the Dance
School gymnasiums, neighborhood banquet halls, and other event facilities are common prom destinations. In emergency situations, parents should know the home address of the prom site. This data, however, is typically posted in a parent newsletter, on the passes themselves, and even on a college website.
