Search engine optimization (SEO) is a variety of techniques used to improve search engine rankings on a website. So what is the level of a search engine? This is the place in the list of results where the search engine returns the given keyword.
Why is search engine quality important?
If your site is high on the search engine results pages (or SERPs), the more likely it is that it will be visible; which means more traffic for you. The most popular search engine, Google has 10 results per page. Most people do not look past the results page - which is why SEO is so important. If your page is in the top ten results you will get a lot more traffic than you did on recent pages.
SEO strategies fall under two broad categories, on-page and off-page.
On the SEO page
These are the things you can do on your actual site to improve your search engine rankings. This usually involves keywords and their use to inform search engines what your site's content is about. These strategies include keyword placement in metatags, image tags, keywords in your HTML title tags and the actual content of your site.
Without an SEO page
These are also related to keyword usage, as well as creating background links. A back link is a link to another website that points to your site and is also called internal links.
Steps You Can Take to Improve Your SEO
1. Always use a keyword and description for metering tags.
Each page that is part of your website should have its own unique meta tag. These tags are fragments of HTML code found near the top of the page when viewing the HTML code of a web page.
To get a meta tag for a keyword, use a comma-separated list of keywords related to the content on your website. These can be individual phrases and words; just make sure they are relevant to the content of your site.
A meta tag description is where you should write a description of your site that is compelling enough to make someone want to visit it. This description is used by search engines (including Google) to describe your site. It is not just a search engine, it can be seen by web users and may attract them with enough interest to visit.
2. When there are images on your site, there should always be an alt tag.
The alt tag (short text for another text) is a piece of HTML code that tells people with closed images, who use only the browsers of the text or the screen reader what the image they can view is about. Search engines also use these tags to help them determine the content of your site.
The alt tag should also contain appropriate keywords and descriptive image captions. Instead of placing a "title" on your alt tag to get a title image, take this opportunity to help search engines know your site content - for example "birdwashing" if your website is about birdwashing. Do not overuse this tag with keywords.
3. Use key tags wisely.
Header tags (known as H1, H2, etc.) are viewed in search engines to find keywords for your website. You can use style sheets to change the look of these markers. Instead, use standard HTML for these topics and not style sheets. Then all you need to do is make sure these key tags contain the appropriate keywords - H1 keywords, H2 secondary and so on.
4. Find backlinks with relevant keywords.
You will need backlinks. All background links you can find. This should be an ongoing process as part of your SEO strategy. If you can get a few links back a week, this looks much better than getting 5,000 at a time - as these links will be purchased at the link farm, in addition to the possibility. Search engines view this type of activity and penalize pages that use these tactics.
These are some of the basics of SEO. There is a lot you can learn though, but these tips are a good place to start in an SEO campaign. Use these methods until they are firmly rooted. You will see an increase in your page rank and your traffic.
