Types of self-care
There are mainly four types of self-care which includes emotional, mental, physical and spiritual, described below:
1. Emotional self-care: Life comes with different phases and our emotions play a vital role in dealing with all of those phases. We usually make decisions based on our mental level which definitely leaves some reactions on our emotions. Dealing with life naturally affects our emotions which need to be taken care of properly. Emotional self-care refers to caring about our emotions and feelings but how do we do that? It is by identifying our emotional needs and nurturing the feelings by understanding our consciousness and intellect. Once we learn to handle our emotions, things become easier to cope up with.
2. Physical self-care: Physical self-care is all about our body. It includes staying fit and healthy by keeping ones away from diseases and aches. There is a famous saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Nobody likes to go to the doctor but sometimes we have to because we love ourselves and want to feel better. There is no harm consulting a doctor as there we keep our physical care prior. There are different ways of physical self- care like consuming healthy vegetables, fruits and milk to fuel our body, exercising to digest and stay fit, breathing fresh air in the early morning and staying hydrated by taking ample amounts of water every day.
3. Mental self-care: Mental is a positive word which shows how active our mind is. Every day is a new task due to which our mind works a lot and is never at rest while during sleep as well our mind is active and is at work. So, taking mental self-care or psychological care is very important. Our mental health also plays an important role in our physical growth and decrement. For mental self-care, we should talk and share our problems not just to find a solution but also to feel relaxed and easy. Nowadays, we have specialized professionals known as counselors and psychologists and we should never feel shy to visit and ask for help. If we are mentally healthy then we are strong all over.
4. Spiritual self-care: Spiritual self-care means connecting ourselves to our higher self where we imagine ourselves. It is about making a connection with ourselves and nurturing our spirit. There are many activities for spiritual self-care like yoga, exercise, meditation, and spending time with nature in peace. All of these bring harmony and show a path which leads to self. It not only satisfies our soul but also our body. It quiets the mind and helps in dropping down the heaviness from our soul.
