Science is the search and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social worlds through a methodical and evidence-based process.
The following are examples of scientific methodology:
• Observation objective: Data collection and measurement (possibly although not necessarily using mathematics as a tool)
• Evidence
• Experimentation and/or observation serve as yardsticks for testing theories.
• Induction is the process of reasoning to build general rules or conclusions based on facts or examples.
• Repetition
• Observation and evaluation
• Verification and testing: rigorous inspection, peer review, and evaluation.
Why define science?
The Science Council agreed in 2009 that it needed to be more specific when discussing sound evidence and science-based policy. The Science Council’s name includes the word “science,” although it has not previously defined what this means.
In addition to gaining a better understanding of the types of organizations that might become members, it was felt that the company announces of advances in science as a charitable activity in the 2006 Charities Act suggested that an interpretation would be useful in that context, which is how this distinction arose.
Because the term “science” refers to such a broad variety of activities, a definition of it must be broad; it must include examination of both the social and natural worlds; it must include the phrases “systematic” and “evidence”; and it must be straightforward and brief. The definition achieves beautifully in all of these areas, and I congratulate it for that.
Here are a few other popular definitions of science:
1. A discipline of knowledge or study that deals with a corpus of facts or truths that are methodically organized and demonstrate the functioning of general rules, such as mathematical science.
2. Systematic understanding of the physical or material universe achieved via observation and experimentation
3. In general, systematized knowledge
4. Any one of the specific fields of scientific or physical sciences
5. Knowledge of facts or concepts obtained via thorough research
6. A skill that exemplifies a precise application of facts or principles.
Science is derived from the Latin word “scientia,” which means “knowledge,” and in its broadest form, it refers to any structured knowledge-base or prescriptive technique capable of resulting in prediction. Science may also be considered a highly accomplished method or practice.
In more modern words, science is a system of knowledge acquisition based on the scientific process or technique in order to arrange a body of information gathered via study.
Science is a never-ending quest to uncover and expand knowledge via study. Scientists conduct observations, collect measureable data linked to their findings, then evaluate the data to provide theoretical explanations for the issue at hand.
Scientific research procedures include developing a hypothesis and performing experiments to evaluate the theory under controlled settings. During this procedure, scientists publish their findings so that other scientists can replicate the experiment and increase the dependability of the results.
Natural sciences (the study of natural occurrences) and social sciences are the two primary categories of scientific subjects (the study of human behavior and society). However, information is produced by observation in both of these divisions and must be capable of being checked for validity by other researchers working under comparable conditions.
Some areas, such as health science and engineering, are classified as transdisciplinary or applied sciences. The scientific method is used in almost all scientific inquiries. The scientific method attempts to explain natural processes in a repeatable manner, eventually allowing researchers to make testable predictions.
