India is a country in Southern Asia that is widely known for its rich aspects of culture and traditions. Though there are many customs followed by different kinds of people all around the world, the Indian heritage always holds a unique value for its aspects.
" Indian family is a tapestry woven by love, care and compassion "
GENERAL ASPECTS OF AN INDIAN FAMILY:
Indian families share love and affection towards each other regardless of the state they are in. On the other hand, the reverence and support shown within the family never declines. People living in Indian families follow a set of norms to maintain stability within the family. But the Western influence has brought up quite a few changes into the family norms such as the formation of more nuclear families than ever. Reports show that children living in joint families are more likely to imbibe the qualities of sharing, caring, empathy and understanding and are less likely to be exposed to domestic violence. Moreover, the children are less likely to suffer from mental issues such as depression when in a joint family.
IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY VALUES:
Some aspects of an Indian family are passed on from one generation to the other. Family values play a necessary part as the building blocks of society. They are preserved by all the members of the family irrespective of the circumstances. These help them shape out a family into a society of skills and reverence. Most Indian families are like an academy where people are being taught the most important and to-be-followed aspects of life. Of course, one can learn all these on their own but being taught by someone who accompanies you all the way until you are ready to be on your own is a tremendous way of nurturing the younger generation. Regardless of other cultures, Indian parents embrace love, kindness and precision simultaneously.
" A family is a little world of fantasy created for, by and with love "
RECENT CHANGES IN THE FAMILY NORMS:
As mentioned before, the Western influence has been the reason for many changes that are being introduced into Indian families. While many of them support women's emancipation, education, and other rights that women deserve, the establishment of equality of sexes, and eradication of superstitions, some of them have bad impacts on society. Elderly people are now being introduced to old-age homes due to the widespread availability of nuclear families. Some aspects of tradition are not cherished sufficiently even by the natives.
CONCLUSION:
It is okay to be interested in the western culture but not to forget their own customs. Let's follow whatever standards we wish to. But let's not forget to cherish our own.
" Fashion is ours to choose. But the culture isn't. "
