What is the origin of Firulais?

Firulais is derived from the English expression free of lice which in Spanish means “flea-free” due to the difference between the two languages, the expression began to deform and went from being free of lice to Fri yu lais and from there to Firulais.

But people started calling any street puppy Firulais regardless of whether they had fleas or not.

This beautiful Firulais accompanied us one afternoon on our promenade in La Vega, we never knew where he lived, or what his real name was.
