The enormity is always amazing. Excellence is created by adding the richness of nature with the vastness. That is why ‘Nilanad’ as the longest river in the world is in the seat of excellence today. The Egyptian civilization that developed in the Nile Basin is also inscribed in golden letters in the pages of history. This river has two tributaries. One is the White Nile River, originating from the lake region of central Africa. The other is the Blue Nile. Lake Tana, Ethiopia, is the source of the azure waters. Mysterious but true, all the rivers of the world flow from north to south but the Nile flows from south to north! Another feature of this river is that even though other rivers of the world have dried up at certain times of the year, the Nile is still full of water. And when the Nile dries up, the other rivers are full of water. About four crore people live on the delta of the Nile River. The river basin has expanded since 3100 BC and is now blessed by 10 countries. These are Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda.
The Nile is the longest river in the world. Its length is about 650 kilometers (4130 miles). There is much controversy over the naming of the Nile. The word blue is thought to be derived from the Semitic word Nahal, which means river. Another idea is that the Greek word comes from Nels, which means valley. Eleven countries, including Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, are blessed with this river in the African continent. This long river has two tributaries named White Nile and Nilav Nile. The White Nile is the lake region in central Africa and the Nile Nile is connected to Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The two tributaries meet near Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. The northern part of the Nile begins in Sudan and flows through the Egyptian desert. Egyptian civilization developed around the Nile. According to the Greek historian Herodotus, ‘Egypt is the gift of the Nile.’ The Nile is associated with many historical events. The pyramids were built west of the Nile at the behest of Pharaoh or Pharaoh rulers of ancient Egypt.
The Nile crocodile is legendary. Crocodiles are associated with the way of life of the people living here. The crocodiles here are up to four meters long. There are about 300 species of birds including baboons and turtles in the riverside area. About four crore people live in the Nile delta. The Egyptians used the Nile as a means of transportation to transport pyramid stones. A dam called Aswan Hai was built on this river in 1970, which saved the floodwaters for later agriculture. The ancient Egyptians thought of the god Hapi as the god of the Nile.
