Today is 21 November, according to the Solar calendar, but it is not used in every country. Instead, there are several calendars used across the globe. While we usually think of the Gregorian calendar, which most countries use for civil and business purposes, there are other types of calendars as well. Here we cover all the different methods and list out some basic facts about them.
Solar Calendar Date
Today's date, according to the solar calendar, is 21 November.
A Solar calendar is based on the year (Sun), and thus it marks the passage of the seasons. Today's most widely used civil calendar is the Gregorian calendar, named after Pope Gregory XIII , who introduced it in 1582. It is a solar calendar, with leap years every four years except for years divisible by 100 but not by 400. Thus 2000 was a leap year, but 2100 will not be. This calendar is crucial because it is used as the basis for all modern calendars.
Where Solar Calendar Uses?
The solar calendar is widely accepted worldwide, mainly in Europe and America, and some of the Asian countries also use solar calendars in schools and offices.
The Solar Calendar is the term used for a particular type of calendar based on the sun and moon. "Solar" came from the Latin word "sol," which means sun. "Sola" means "alone" or "single," referring to the fact that this type of calendar does not take into account phases of the moon. The solar calendar was the first type of calendar to be developed, and it is what we use today.
The Solar Calendar has 12 months, each with 28-30 days, and an extra day called a leap day added every four years to compensate for the fact that our actual 365-day year doesn't quite match up with our 365-day days (this is because the Earth's orbit around the sun is slightly elliptical). The Solar Calendar has seven-day weeks, rotating through a repeating pattern: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. The entire days in a month differ by year, but it stays constant within any.
Lunar Calendar
Today's date, according to the lunar calendar, is 18 Rabi Al-Akhar 1442.
The Islamic calendar, or Islamic calendar, is a lunar calendar system that counts years and months from the Hijri era, which began in 622 AD/CE. The Hijri era is often used for all matters relating to Islam and sometimes for official dating of historical events. An earlier but similar solar-based calendar system is the Persian calendar.
The Islamic calendar employs the Hijri era, established as Muhammad's Hijra (emigration) from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE. Years are numbered according to the Hijri era, which marks the ascension of Muhammad as the Prophet of God. Thus, the first year of the Islamic calendar corresponds to the date upon which Muhammad first spoke aloud in public regarding his status as Messenger of God, namely at 'Arafat.
Where Lunar Calendar Uses?
In countries that use the Islamic and Gregorian calendars, such as Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, the month codes are generally adapted from Arabic numerals as follows:
The standard Arabic numeric characters 0–9 are generally used for representing numbers. Arabic character represents a number if it is written in superscript at its right. For example, 5 March 2004 is represented as 28 Muharram 1425.
