What Is the Wood Wide Web?
Research has shown that under every forest and forest there is a complex underground web of roots, fungi and bacteria that connect trees and plants. This underground social network, almost 500 million years old, is known as the “Wood Wide Web”.

“The fungi weave a huge web through the bottom of the forest. Some call this the Wood Wide Web, by analogy with the World Wide Web. The fungi in the soil connect with many trees, also with different species. It is a web of connectedness of soil, roots, fungi and plants; a web of life. This web helps us think about the pondering position we are in. The web brings together the atmosphere and the soil: the light of the sun becomes sugars for trees, and moves through the fungi, creating a whole world. That image is a great starting point to think about how we could survive, despite the damage we have done to the world.'
