What makes bumblebees unique?
Not only do bumblebees have an adorable fluffy body, but they are also fascinating insects with several unique characteristics that distinguish them from other insects.
Size and appearance
Bumblebees are generally larger than other bees and have a fluffy appearance due to their dense hair. This makes them easy to distinguish from other bees and insects. On average, bumblebees can range in size from about 1 centimeter to over 2 centimeters in length. Some larger species of bumblebees can become even larger, with a length of more than 3 centimeters. The queen is generally the largest individual bumblebee within a colony, while the workers and drones are smaller.
The size may vary and depends on various factors such as the region in which they occur, the availability of food resources, and other environmental factors.
Social
Bumblebees live in social colonies, similar to honeybees, where they have a queen, workers and sometimes males (drones). This complex social structure includes division of tasks and cooperation between the colony's individuals.
Pollination ability
Bumblebees are excellent pollinators and play an essential role in pollinating flowering plants. Due to their large body size and the way they move through flowers, bumblebees can collect and spread pollen effectively.
