What's the right way to sit at a piano?
Adjustable piano benches are a good option; especially for children growing up, people who share a piano and still feel comfortable with the keyboard. You may need to adjust traditional piano benches to achieve a good piano stand. If you've seen live piano music, you've probably also seen a few pianists who took their happy time adjusting the piano bench, some pretty accurate. This is perfectly acceptable, so don't feel self-conscious if you find yourself having to do this during your piano recital.Â
1. Feet should be able to touch the floor completely.
If this is not possible or if you are causing you to be too low, place a sturdy object (from a simple footstool, one of the nicer pedal platforms) under your feet. While playing, your feet should provide more stability than the piano bench, so don't let them wander too far in all directions.Â
