What size is Passport Photo?

I know you have seen different passports, and you're wondering why it is necessary to know what size a passport photo should be. Knowing the size of a passport photo is very necessary because it helps you avoid unnecessary expenditure because you took the wrong size passport photo. The size varies in countries and organization.

Depending on the country you are traveling to, the size of passport photo may vary. This article is set to educate you on how the size of passport photo for UK and US.

In UK, Your picture in the biometric passport has to meet very exact standards in order for it to be valid for use, and current requirements are based around the biometric passport standards now in use around the world. Photos submitted as part of a new passport application that do not meet the required standards will be rejected immediately. If this happens, any money paid may not be refunded, and the applicable fee will be required when re-submitting the application. Because of this, it is important to fully understand what is required, and to make sure the photo you send will be accepted.

A UK biometric passport photo is very similar in size to most countries around the world, but there are some differences and it should not be assumed that any photos taken in another country for the purpose of applying for a UK passport will be accepted. The recommended size for a passport photo is;

• Size: 45mm * 35m
• Head size: Head must be between 29mm and 34mm.
• Background: cream or light grey
  

• Size: 2 *2 inches
• Color: must be in black and white.
  Background: solid white or shade off white.
  

• Make sure the photo presents the full head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin

• Center the head with the frame
• The person in the photo should have a neutral expression and be facing the camera

• Photo must be 2 inches by 2 inches
• The height of the head (top of hair to bottom of chin) should measure 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches (25 mm - 35 mm)
• Make sure the eye height is between 1 1/8 inches to 1 3/8 inches (28 mm – 35 mm) from the bottom of the photo

• The top of the head, including the hair, to the bottom of the chin must be between 50% and 69% of the image's total height. The eye height (measured from the bottom of the image to the level of the eyes) should be between 56% and 69% of the image's height.
• Image pixel dimensions must be in a square aspect ratio (meaning the height must be equal to the width). Minimum acceptable dimensions are 600 pixels (width) x 600 pixels (height). Maximum acceptable dimensions are 1200 pixels (width) x 1200 pixels (height)
