What to watch before mandalorian season 1

Season 1 of The Mandalorian on Disney+ is off to a memorable start, introducing a host of new characters along with plenty of fan-favorite heroes and villains from elsewhere in Star Wars lore.

Along with forging some important connections to the Star Wars film franchise, The Mandalorian has drawn heavily from two beloved animated series set within the saga’s timeline: Star Wars:If you’re interested in learning more about the elements The Mandalorian has borrowed from these series, but don’t want to sift through more than 200 episodes, you’re in luck. We’ve put together the following list of individual episodes and story arcs to watch that have direct ties to the live-action series.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Released in 2008, this film served as the pilot for The Clone Wars series that followed and provided the first introduction to Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, who would go on to become one of the lead characters of the series before leaping The Mandalorian (and her own, upcoming Ahsoka solo series). The film chronicles Ahsoka’s introduction to Anakin and one of the pair’s earliest adventures together, setting the stage for everything that follows.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (game)
This game starts just as the events of Return of the Jedi come to an end. However, it spans multiple decades and ends up taking place at around the time of the sequel trilogy. There’s a little crossover with when Mando takes place, so playing this game could help expand your wider Star Wars knowledge. It broadly helps with your Mandalorian season two research, but more importantly; it’s darn fun.

Firefly
Mando, the mysterious masked main character of The Mandalorian, is, for lack of a better term, a space cowboy. Riding on untamed beasts across space deserts, sauntering into space saloons, drawing weapons in space duels... all he needs is a space spittoon to be a full-on galactic gaucho. But to learn more about this unique lifestyle, you have to turn to the original TV space cowboys, the crew of The Serenity.
