What to watch Korean movies

The world of cinema is huge and the Asian cinema is getting bigger day by day, especially after the release of Parasite and Squid Game. Korean movies are gaining popularity due to their diversity, good acting, spine-chilling horror, and adorable romance. Here are a few Korean movies that you should have on your must-watch list for sure.

Sinkhole
This is an excellent disaster comedy that runs around a common man and his family who buy a house after working hard for 11 years. Before they could enjoy the house and celebrate it a heavy overnight downpour creates a sinkhole and swallows the house with people in it. The movie will keep you hooked to the screen as you watch the residents of the building find a solution to get out of the sinkhole. You will get to see people working in a team, friendship bonds, and sacrifices made during a disaster to keep each other alive.

Spiritwalker
Again a very gripping fantasy action movie that runs around a man who has lost his memory and wakes up every twelve hours as a different person each time. The movie has an element of surprise, suspense, and drama in it. It takes a turn when the man meets a woman who claims to recognize him and soon after he realizes that he is being chased by a mysterious organization. This movie has been at Korea’s box office for two weeks in a row which is a good enough reason to watch it.

Waiting for Rain
If you like to watch innocent romance then you will love this movie. It is a story about a boy Young-ho who falls in love with a girl, So-hee when they were in elementary school but the girl moves away and he never gets to tell her how he felt about her. He spends most of his life thinking about So-hee and started writing her letters. So-hee is dying so her sister starts to reply to the letters and years pass by. Both of them promise to meet each other on 31st December if it rains but it never rains. Rest is for you to watch and enjoy. The movie is full of drama, and emotions. It is a wonderful movie to watch with someone you love.

Mission Impossible
Mission Impossible is yet another entertaining movie but this one doesn’t have Tom Cruise in it. This is an action-comedy movie about a secret agent, Yoo Da-he is supposed to stop a smuggling operation in South Korea but she ends up linking with a hapless detective, Woo Soo-han facing a case of mistaken identity. During their partnership, a few key witnesses of the case die, and both the detectives struggle to survive and find justice. This 2-hour movie will keep you entertained without having to think too much about the plot. The actions scenes are great and the chemistry between the two actors makes it worth watching.

Escape from Mogadishu.
Based on the events in 1991 when a few people from Somalia protests against the government which turns into civil war. This movie became the highest-grossing South Korean movie of 2021 and was submitted to the 2022 Oscars for the Best International Feature. The movie highlights the relationship between South Korea and North Korea in a very realistic manner compared to other similar movies. It is a must-watch for sure if you like to watch movies based on real events.
