Let's get into the must-watch movies and TV shows streaming right now. Here are the best of what's new on Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney Plus, and more for you to watch.
Many of the recommendations are for new series, while others are for rare releases you may have missed or for oldies due to exiting a streaming service at the end of the month.
Death on the Nile
Kenneth Branagh's rendition of Agatha Christie's murder mystery is a step up from the director's last Christie adaption, "Murder on the Orient Express," from 2017. There are still instances in which you'll squint at the garish CGI or shake your head at the red herring that appears too early in Act 1. However, Branagh's pompous but brilliant detective Hercule Poirot has enough talented actors to interrogate — including Annette Bening ("American Beauty"), Armie Hammer ("The Social Network"), and Russell Brand ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall") — to keep you entertained (and surprised) until the film's conclusion.
Deep Water
"Deep Water" stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas. The film is a throwback to films like "Basic Instinct," "Body Double" and "Indecent Proposal". If you can look past the patent absurdity of "Deep Water," the film is darkly funny.
Turning Red
The film follows a girl who turns into a red panda when she gets too excited. "Turning Red" is a story about relationships, expectations, and much like Pixar's earlier short, "Bao," the sometimes-too-tight bond between mother and daughter.
The Afterparty
The Afterparty” takes a simple concept — a murder mystery whodunnit — and turns it on his head, with each episode told from a different point of view and unfolding as a completely different genre of show. That can lead to some uneven episodes, but the core cast, topped by Sam Richardson (“Veep”) and Tiffany Haddish (“Girls Trip”) make “The Afterparty” worth sticking around to solve.
Cheaper by the Dozen
Adapted from the popular classic, the Bakers, an extended family with 12 members, must balance the demands of their chaotic home life with the responsibilities of their successful family company in this wild version.
Bridgerton
It was Netflix's Bridgerton that brought Regency-era romance to an unparalleled level of bingeability. Each season of Shonda Rhimes's dazzling series revolves on a couple in search of love under the watchful eye of the Queen. In Shondaland style, this seemingly mundane concept quickly gives way to seductive and raunchy experiences that are highly addictive.
Ozark
Ozark isn’t quite the prestige drama it aspires to be, but it’s still an incredibly engaging and intense crime thriller. It follows the Byrdes, who move to the Ozarks to launder money for a Mexican cartel, promptly creating deadly havoc in the small town. Julia Garner delivers a gut-wrenching, two-time Emmy winning performance. The show ends with the second half of season four (dropping on April 29).
