What to do when you think you are coming down with flu?
Normally people get better in 3 to 5 days on their own but people with high-risk conditions may need to visit a doctor. In either case, you should:
Stay at home till you get better.
Avoid coming in contact with other people as it can spread
Take ample rest and drink lots of fluids
Always cover your nose and mouth when sneezing, coughing or better do it into your sleeves.
Wash your hands often with soap
If you are running high fever you can take medicine to reduce it
What to do if you are at high risk?
If you are pregnant or in the your last trimester you need to consult a doctor right away
Seek medical help if it is a child less than 2 years of age
If the person has neurologic or neuromuscular disorder, has asthma or chronic lung disease, if you have a heart disease, liver or kidney disease, a blood disorder like sickle cell disease, have diabetes or are obese.
If you have a weak immune system due to HIV/ADIS, cancer, chemotherapy, or you are on long-term steroids.
If you are 65 years or older
How long should you stay at home if you are sick?
It is better to stay for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone unless you are going to see a doctor.
